Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan repayment initiative. Applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The program offers an award amount of up to $200,000 and an eligibility period of one to five years, determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after reviewing the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to reapply.
Qualifications
To qualify, applicants must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending applicants may be considered tentatively but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial appointment standards are deemed to have met the basic requirements.
Basic Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship, with non-citizens only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, per VA Policy
- Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school
- Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the U.S.
- Completed residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification
- Enrolled residents in accredited programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and may only serve on a fee-basis under supervision
- Proficiency in spoken and written English
- Board Certification in Internal Medicine or Internal Medicine Pediatrics
- Minimum of 5 years of post-residency practice
- Physical standards met, with a prior physical exam required; position is drug testing designated
- Ability to lift 15-44 pounds, push for approximately 2 hours, reach above shoulder level, use fingers and both hands, walk and stand for 3-5 hours, kneel, and perform rapid coordination tasks
- Depth perception, color discrimination, and hearing ability; hearing aids permitted.
Duties
- Seeking an enthusiastic internist with a passion for medical education for a full-time Medical Director role at our Jamaica Plain, Boston location
- The position involves approximately 51% clinical duties
- The practice serves 6,000 patients with a team of 10 physicians, offering onsite radiology, laboratory, and urgent care services
- The Medical Director oversees practice management, provider supervision, clinical performance, and develops educational initiatives
- Responsibilities include precepting, quality improvement, and population management, with prior educational experience preferred
- Manage a complex patient panel, with appointment lengths of 60 minutes for new and 30 minutes for follow-ups, utilizing telehealth options
- No weekend or holiday duties, no on-call requirement
- Participate in teaching medical students and residents, with academic appointments at Harvard Medical School or Boston University
