Responsibilities

1. Function as a consultant to patients, physicians, and other team members to ensure quality palliative care, including pain and symptom management, in collaboration with the attending physician.

2. Ensure appropriate evaluation, certification, and recertification of terminal prognosis at admission and during certification periods.

3. Serve as a physician member of the Professional Advisory Committee.

4. Conduct educational seminars, in-services, and presentations to healthcare professionals to improve patient care and promote hospice services.

5. Provide in-house or phone consultation for acute patient issues that staff cannot resolve, and participate in joint visits when indicated.

Qualifications

• Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy degree from an accredited medical school.

• Current, unencumbered medical license for the assigned state.

• Membership in good standing on the medical staff of at least one contracted hospital.

• Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and agency-required liability insurance for home visits.

• Board certification in hospice and palliative care is preferred.
