Job summary

Insight Hospital and Medical Center Chicago is seeking a Physician Liaison Services (PLS) Coordinator to manage new and existing accounts referred by external providers. You will schedule appointments, collect information, and serve as the main ambassador between referring physicians and Insight’s services.

The ideal candidate will be organized with strong interpersonal and communication skills, and a commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate/Bachelor's Degree strongly preferred in Business, Marketing, Healthcare Management, or related field.
  • 1 year of relevant customer service experience.
  • Active Driver's License and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; strong phone etiquette.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain positive physician relationships and manage confidential information.
  • Expedite patient scheduling from referring physicians as needed.
  • Connect patients with resources (Medicaid, food stamps, etc.).
  • Bridge gaps between referring providers and Insight; escalate issues as needed.

Job Summary:

The Physician Liaison Services (PLS) Coordinator is responsible for managing new and existing accounts that are referred to Insight from external providers. This role interacts with high level Physicians and Managers, so a candidate with a strong sense of professionalism is desired. Day to day duties of this role includes, but is not limited to scheduling appointments, obtaining missing information, and being the main representative/ambassador between the referring physician/clinic and Insight’s services. The ideal candidate must be organized, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, along with understanding the importance of maintaining and building strong foundational relationships. These duties are to be performed in a highly confidential manner, in accordance with the mission, values and behaviors of Insight. Employees are further expected to provide a high quality of care, service, and kindness toward all patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and guests.

Duties:
  • Maintain positive physician relationships; exercises discretion and judgment during and after hours when Physicians (customers) may inquire concerning sensitive information
  • Ability to expedite patient scheduling from referring physicians as needed
  • Proactively connects patients and customers with resources they may need (medicaid, food stamps,etc)
  • Identify and bridge any gaps between the referring provider and Insight; performs future analysis in how to overcome future obstacles in these gaps
  • Provides constant communication to external providers in order to streamline the process of sending referrals; troubleshoots any issues that may arise independently, and escalates as needed
  • Comforts and supports patients through anticipating potential patient anxieties, answers patient questions, and directs patient to resources as needed
  • Records and collects patient information for follow-up appointments
  • Performs data entry activities to help update the Marketing Tracking System
  • Protects patient rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information and HIPAA compliance at all times
  • Extends excellent patient care to ensure patient comfort and satisfaction
  • Performs other duties and tasks as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Able to provide eligibility for employment for any U.S. employer
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; Associate/Bachelor's Degree strongly preferred in the areas of Business, Marketing, Healthcare Management, or related field.
  • 1 years of relevant customer service experience
  • Ability to have reliable transportation and potentially operate a company vehicle to travel to clinics
  • Active Driver's License
  • Ability to work with Microsoft office (excel, word, etc)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Superior Phone etiquette and communications skills
  • Proficiency with computers, preferably strong typing skills
  • Demonstrated skills in verbal and written English communications for safe and effective patient care and to meet documentation standards.
  • Ability to work with technology to receive/process referrals
  • Ability to smile, converse and engage actively with customers
  • Ability to read work orders and/or receive verbal instructions
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to multitask and move between responsibilities in fluid manner

Physical Requirements:
  • May be expected to lift up to 15 - 50 pounds with assistance. May be expected to push or pull 30 - 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Work is of medium demand; walking or standing most of the time while on duty.
  • Visual and auditory acuity and manual dexterity essential to performing designated duties required. Optimal auditory acuity required.
  • Manual dexterity involving the handling of equipment and supplies is essential to performing assigned duties.
  • Physical conditions are clean, neat and well lit.
  • May be subjected to unpleasant sights and odors, stressful situations and hazardous or infectious agents where judgment as to precautions needed to be taken is essential. Climate control and ambient temperature variances may be experienced and required by patient care and needs of the patient care team.
  • Exposure to limited amounts of radiation, hazardous chemicals or substances and infectious disease processes are a possibility
  • Hours of duty may be irregular or unexpectedly extended due to the requirements of the clinical schedule and department needs
OSHA Exposure Classification:

Job Category III. Tasks/activities do not entail predictable or unpredictable exposure to blood or other body fluids to which universal precautions apply.
