A leading healthcare organization is seeking a Physician (Hospitalist) to provide comprehensive medical care for hospitalized patients. This role involves significant independent judgment in diagnosis and treatment, as well as supervising medical trainees. The ideal candidate will hold a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree, be board eligible/certified, and possess a valid medical license.
Joint Base Lewis-McChord, its affiliated clinics and dental clinic are located at Fort Lewis, Washington, near the city of Tacoma. Madigan AMC is one of only three designated Level Two trauma centers within the U.S. Medical Command.
Tacoma is a progressive city of 200,000 nestled between Seattle and Olympia. The region offers the attractions of larger metropolitan areas, with a hometown feel. World-class museums, hotels, and theaters draw thousands to downtown Tacoma, while the shores of Puget Sound and Mount Rainier inspire outdoor enthusiasts. Notable attractions include the Broadway Center for the Performing Arts, Chihuly Bridge of Glass, Emerald Downs Racetrack, Emerald Queen Casino, Fort Nisqually Living History Museum, Lakewold Gardens, and the Mount Rainier Scenic Railroad. The city also offers excellent schools, universities, parks, festivals, and shopping centers.
Major Duties:
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Physician (Hospitalist) within a Defense Health Agency Medical Treatment Facility. The physician's main focus is the general medical care of hospitalized patients.
1. The physician works under the general supervision of the Chief, Department of Medicine, who discusses policies and objectives. The physician does not receive direct supervision and exercises considerable independent judgment in diagnosis, medical decision-making, and performing diagnostic procedures. Responsible for managing aged patients admitted to the Inpatient Medicine Service, including examining patients, ordering and evaluating radiology and laboratory tests, diagnosing, and prescribing treatments such as medications, nursing care, and dietary interventions. Acts as the gatekeeper to inpatient medical care from clinics, emergency departments, and other medical establishments. Provides consultative inpatient services and referrals to specialized care professionals and facilities for chronic and acute conditions.
2. Serves as a Staff Physician of an inpatient medicine team, overseeing and educating trainees, including interns and residents, in patient care. Also supervises nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and medical students.
3. Conducts chart reviews for quality assurance, patient safety, and risk management. Reviews cases presenting medical management issues, evaluates findings, and prescribes appropriate treatments.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Must be board eligible/board certified
Degree: Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from an accredited U.S. or Canadian medical school, obtained in the year of graduation. Foreign degrees may be recognized if certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) or equivalent.
Graduate Training: At least 1 year of supervised clinical experience post-degree, such as an internship or first year of residency in an accredited institution.
Licensure/Certification: A permanent, full, unrestricted medical license in the U.S., District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or U.S. territories is required.
