Job description

This position offers eligibility for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan repayment initiative. Applicants must meet specific VHA policy criteria and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The program approval, including award amounts (up to $200,000) and eligibility periods (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to reapply.

Qualifications:

To qualify, applicants must meet the basic requirements and any additional criteria specified in the job announcement. Pending completion of training or licensing requirements, applicants may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all conditions are fulfilled. Current VA-employed physicians who met previous qualification standards at initial appointment are deemed to meet the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

• U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens may be appointed if qualified citizens are unavailable)
• Medical degree from an approved school
• Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the U.S.
• Completion of residency training approved by the VA or equivalent
• Enrolled residents in accredited programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and work under supervision
• Proficiency in English
• Preferred: ABIM Certification
• Physical requirements as per VA Directive and Handbook 5019

Job Duties:

• Provide inpatient care, coordinate with hospital departments, and ensure high-quality patient care
• Lead interdisciplinary teams, conduct rounds, and communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff
• Participate in quality improvement, hospital committees, and business development activities
• Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to hospital policies
• Engage in professional development and meet organizational requirements
• Serve as a liaison and contribute to hospital programs and initiatives
