Job description

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Duties

The hospitalist provides inpatient clinical care to patients referred to hospitalist services, working closely with the nurse director and hospital departments to ensure high-quality, effective patient care, timely discharges, and excellent communication with PCPs, patients, families, specialists, hospital departments, and administration. The hospitalist leads the interdisciplinary team to improve efficiency and facilitate continuum of care from admission through discharge. This includes general adult medicine, internal medicine consults, critical care management, and management of patients with comorbidities.

Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending completion of training or licensing requirements, applicants may be tentatively selected but not hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met initial appointment requirements are deemed qualified.

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, per VA policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or equivalent from an approved medical school.
  • Current, full, unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
  • Residency Training: Completion of an approved residency program leading to eligibility for board certification. Approved residencies include those accredited by ACGME, AOA, or other recognized programs deemed appropriate by the Medical Staff Executive Committee. Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA residencies and meeting basic requirements may be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and work under supervision.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience: ABIM-Certified physicians are preferred.
