The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a Medical Director for the Northern California Healthcare System. This role involves overseeing hospice and palliative care services, providing clinical leadership, and developing programs to enhance patient care. Applicants must be board certified and possess a medical degree and a current unrestricted license to practice in the U.S.
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount up to $200,000, and eligibility period of one to five years are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until July 15, 2025. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be May 29, 2025, with subsequent cut-off dates every two weeks. Eligible applications received after that date will be accepted on an ongoing basis, and qualified candidates will be considered as vacancies become available.

Northern California Healthcare System (NCHCS): The system serves veteran patients across Northern to Central California at 13 care facilities and 10 outpatient clinics, including comprehensive hospice and palliative care services at various locations.
The HPC medical director reports to the ACOS for Geriatrics & Extended Care.
The major duties include, but are not limited to, overseeing hospice and palliative care services, clinical leadership, and program development.
To qualify, you must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the announcement. Applicants pending training or licensure completion may be referred and tentatively selected but not hired until requirements are met. Existing VA physicians who met previous standards are deemed qualified.
