Job summary

Marshfield Medical Center is seeking a 1.0 FTE BC/BE fellowship-trained Trauma Surgeon to join an established Trauma Surgery section. The service provides acute care surgery, critical care and trauma with in-house coverage 24/7.

A strong interest in trauma research is encouraged. Board-certified/board-eligible surgeons with Surgical Critical Care or Acute Care training are preferred; a commitment to education and patient care excellence is essential.

Qualifications

  • M.D. or D.O. degree required.
  • Board certification in general surgery with or without subspecialty in trauma critical care; fellowship in surgical critical care/acute care preferred.
  • Active involvement in General Surgery with 100+ procedures in the past 12 months or comparable activity.

Responsibilities

  • Staff acute care surgical service as part of a trauma team.
  • Cover trauma and SICU care; participate in 24/7 in-house trauma coverage.

Job description

Visas Accepted H1B or J1 Specialty General Surgery Practice Details Marshfield Medical Center (MMC) in Marshfield, Wisconsin is seeking a 1.0 FTE BC/BE fellowship-trained Trauma Surgeon to join an established 7-member Trauma Surgery section. This service is an acute care trauma service model covering all aspects of acute care surgery, critical care and trauma. MMC is a Level II Trauma Center. Trauma attending is in house 24/7. During the day, one trauma surgeon/surgical intensivist or critical care intensivist staffs the SICU, one surgeon staffs the Acute Care Surgical Service and one surgeon is dedicated to trauma patients on the floor and to trauma activations. At night, one trauma surgeon covers SICU, Acute Care Surgical Service and Trauma. 4-5-night shifts per month. Back-up for the night trauma surgeon is covered by a day trauma surgeon. The ICU and trauma services are each supported with allied health providers. The acute care surgical service includes surgical resident supervision. The ideal candidate will have completed a Surgical Critical Care or Acute Care Fellowship and be board certified/board eligible for surgical critical care through the American Board of Surgery. An interest in participating in trauma research is required.

Competitive compensation package includes:

  • Annual compensation of $605,000 if you complete required number of shifts for 1.0 FTE
  • In addition, a $100,000 retention incentive to be paid if you remain a 1.0 FTE for 4 years (this will be subject to a contractual agreement specifying all details)

General Surgery Core Privileges

General Surgery Core Privileges include the ability to admit, evaluate, diagnose and provide pre-, intra-, and postoperative care and perform surgical procedures for adolescents and adults (except where specifically excluded from practice and except for those special procedure privilege), to correct or treat various conditions, illnesses, and injuries of the alimentary tract, abdomen and its contents, breast, skin, soft tissue, head and neck, endocrine system, and minor extremity surgery. Surgery Core privileges also include the ability to provide for the on-call emergent/urgent needs of the pediatric and pre-adolescent surgical patient within the core privilege definition.

Qualifications

M.D. or D.O. degree. Experience can be demonstrated in one of the following ways: An applicant who has just completed a residency shall provide his/her residency or fellowship log. OR An applicant who is not applying directly out of a residency shall provide a quality profile from hospital(s) where he/she currently has privileges showing his/her clinical activity for the past 12 months, including numbers of procedures morbidity, mortality, infection rates and other complications. Applicant must be able to demonstrate active involvement in the clinical aspects of General Surgery and case volumes should show performance of at least 100 procedures in the past 12 months. OR If a quality profile is not available from the hospital(s) where the applicant currently has privileges, documentation of the applicant’s clinical activity for the past 12 months is required. Applicant must be able to demonstrate active involvement in the clinical aspects of General Surgery and case volumes should show performance of at least 100 procedures in the past 12 months. More education and experience may be required the more advanced the practice becomes.

Successful completion of a hospital affiliated surgical residency program or a clinical fellowship of at least five years’ duration accredited by the ACGME, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada. The Credentials Committee; Physician Executive or Medical Affairs Committee; and the Board of Directors or the Board of Governors may consider training at residency programs accredited by organizations other than the above. Certification by the appropriate specialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as applicable. Those applicants who are not board certified at the time of application but who have completed their residency training within the last five years shall be eligible, however must achieve board certification within five years from the date of completion of their residency training unless the appropriate governing Board waives such requirement. (Refer to each entities policy for grandfather exceptions) Privileging documents and related credentialing requirements will supersede this job description in defining minimum qualifications, criteria, and scope of practice, if variation between documents exists.
