The selected trainee will join the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at The University of Kansas Health System as a full time Fellow. The trainee will join a robust team of 19 residents, maternal-fetal medicine and gynecologic oncology fellows and over thirty faculty to provide evidence-based quality care. As a member of the Specialist Division, it is expected that the Academic Specialist fellow will learn core educational techniques, work with educational specialists in the department to provide didactic, case-based learning and simulation to the Ob/Gyn residents and medical students. The fellows will also participate in the Academic Excellence Development Program through faculty affairs. The fellow will continue to build upon the knowledge and skills obtained during residency. They will manage patients that acutely present to the emergency room as well as a wide range of gynecological problems. They will continue to develop more advanced technical skills. The fellow will continue to build leadership and teaching skills as a practicing attending on a service. Fellows develop competence in operative delivery, complicated vaginal repair including 3rd and 4th degree lacerations and technically difficult surgical procedures. They will develop clinical judgment and skills needed for independent practice. The fellow will serve as the practicing attending and be responsible for the direction and training of the residents and medical students. The fellow is 80% learner and 20% independent practitioner. Faculty will provide care on labor and delivery that would include supervision of residents and students as well as consultation to certified nurse midwives. The ambulatory practice includes care in outpatient private clinics. The fellowship provides a competitive benefits package. Appointment is full-time into a one-year fellowship.
Required Qualifications:
Applicants should be board-eligible or board-certified Ob/Gyn physicians or have completed an Ob/Gyn Residency by the start of the fellowship and be eligible for Kansas medical license.
Desires to enhance skills as an academic medicine physician.
