Summary

This position is located at one of the various Indian Health Service Hospitals or Clinics under the Navajo Area Office. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a technical expert within the specialty area of Family Practice, providing diagnosis, care, and treatment of patients of all ages.

Note: This is an Open Continuous announcement; applicants will be referred when vacancies occur.

Duties

• Responsible for practicing medicine or providing direct services to patients, including diagnostic, preventative, or therapeutic services in hospitals and clinics.
• Prescribe or administer treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination, and other specialized medical care to treat and prevent illness, disease, or injury.
• Order, perform, interpret tests, and analyze records, reports, and examination information to diagnose patients' conditions.
• Monitor patient progress and re-evaluate treatment as necessary. Explain procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments with patients.
• Coordinate work with Nurses, Pharmacists, Social Workers, and other health professionals in providing health services.

• This position involves contact or control over Indian children and is covered by Public Law 101-630. The agency must ensure that persons hired have not been convicted of certain crimes.

• On-call hours or standby duty may be required.
• Must pass E-Verify employment verification check.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements

• Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine degree from an accredited school in the U.S. or Canada.
• Foreign medical degree must be equivalent to U.S. standards, with appropriate certification or exam completion.
• Current, active, unrestricted medical license or registration in the U.S.
• At least 1 year of supervised clinical experience post-degree, such as internship or residency, accredited by recognized bodies.

Additional Qualifications

For GS-13, 3 years of graduate training or equivalent experience in Family Medicine/Practice is required. Applicants completing training within 9 months should include a letter confirming their expected completion date.

Selective Factor: Board Certification (ABMS or NBPAS) in the specialty, or recent residency completion, or active pursuit of board certification. Verification of certification status must be provided.

Additional Information

Position may be covered by a bargaining unit, with potential incentives and government housing depending on location. Student loan repayment programs are available through IHS, NHSC, and HRSA.
