Physician (Family Medicine)

About the Position: This position is located at the Army Medical Center Madigan, WA.

  • A relocation or recruitment incentive may be authorized.

Joint Base Lewis-McChord, its affiliated clinics, and dental clinic are located at Fort Lewis, Washington, near Tacoma. Madigan AMC is one of only three Level Two trauma centers within the U.S. Medical Command.

Responsibilities

Major Duties: The presence of multiple chronic processes complicates diagnosis and treatment, requiring a board-certified family practice specialist.

  1. Serves as a Family Physician at Madigan Army Medical Center, examining active duty, family members, and authorized beneficiaries. Provides appropriate care, referrals, and performs procedures such as vasectomy, fracture reduction, lumbar puncture, emergency deliveries, biopsies, joint procedures, ECG, radiograph interpretation, IUD insertion/removal, regional anesthesia, splinting, crisis intervention, and advanced cardiac life support.
  2. Reviews physical requirements and conducts physical exams for military and civilian personnel, determining qualifications based on established guidelines.
  3. May supervise medical students, externs, residents, and other healthcare providers, including records review, consultations, and direct observation, in accordance with Army Regulation 40-48 and other guidance.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet education and experience requirements, including paid, unpaid, volunteer, or service work. Relevant experience should be clearly described in the resume. Transcripts or proof of foreign medical degree equivalency are required if applicable.

Basic Requirements for Physician (Family Medicine):

  • Degree: MD, DO, or equivalent from an accredited U.S. or Canadian school. Foreign degrees must demonstrate educational equivalency via certification or exam.
  • Licensure: Current, active, unrestricted medical license from a U.S. state or territory.
  • Graduate Training: At least one year of supervised clinical experience post-degree, such as an internship or first year of residency.

Additional Qualification: Completion of an accredited residency in Family Medicine and at least 4 years of experience/training in the specialty. Experience cannot substitute for residency training.
