Job Location: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Remote

The role you’ll contribute:

AH coders will review physicians’ documentation and assign proper CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS codes, and modifiers for services rendered in both office and hospital settings. They will also work on previously coded items, making corrections based on current coding guidelines for charges needing edits, reviews, and denials requiring recoding.

• Review and edit captured charges and medical documentation to determine appropriate codes and modifiers for E&M and small procedures.
• Review outpatient and inpatient procedure reports, abstract relevant data, and enter charges into EMR.
• Communicate documentation discrepancies with coding support staff and supervisors.
• Create patient charts, enter demographics and insurance information in EMR.
• Verify data entry accuracy for demographics, insurance, and charges.
• Attach insurance and authorizations to patient encounters in EMR.
• Serve as a coding resource and assist with questions.
• Support coding supervisor with escalated questions.
• Maintain an accuracy rate of 90% or above in QA reviews.
• Complete work timely and meet departmental standards.
• Maintain open communication with the team and supervisor.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills Required:

• Substantial knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS, and modifiers for outpatient and inpatient procedures.
• Knowledge of NCCI, MU, MUE edits, and bundling guidelines.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to operate PC and web/teleconference equipment.

Knowledge and Skills Preferred:

• Current knowledge of E&M and surgical coding.
• Ability to explain documentation needs to physicians and staff via EMR.

Education and Experience Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 2 years of physician-based coding experience for E&M and surgical procedures.

Education and Experience Preferred:

• Technical certification in medical coding or an Associate’s Degree in Medical Billing/Coding.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

• At least one of the following: CPC or CPC-A, RHIT, CBCS.
• If a certification has lapsed, the candidate has 60 days to reinstate it upon employment; otherwise, employment may be terminated.

Facility Specific:
