Summary

We are seeking a physician who is Board Certified or Board Eligible in Emergency Medicine to serve as a part-time physician in the Emergency Department at Madison - WI Veterans Hospital. The incumbent will admit, evaluate, diagnose, and provide appropriate treatment to patients, as defined by the American Board of Emergency Medicine.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the basic requirements listed below, as well as any additional requirements specified in the job announcement. Pending training or license completion applicants may be considered tentatively but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled. Current VA-employed physicians who met previous qualification standards are deemed qualified.

• U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens only if qualified citizens are unavailable
• Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school
• Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in the U.S.
• Completed residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification
• Proficiency in English
• Preferred: Board Certification in Emergency Medicine and 5+ years of experience in Emergency Medicine

Duties

• Provide staffing for the Emergency Department at William S. Middleton Memorial Hospital, primarily during overnight shifts (7 PM to 7 AM)
• Ensure compliance with VA guidelines and contribute to ED process improvements
• Possess skills in CPR, defibrillation, ultrasound, and ventilation management
• Oversee daily ED operations and report to the Emergency Department Service
• Admit, evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients as per ABEM standards
• Participate in CME and quality assurance activities
• Maintain professionalism, ethical conduct, and good judgment
• Be available for "on call" coverage, arriving within one hour as needed
• Provide clinical oversight and review, including supervision of mid-level providers
• Perform administrative duties, such as committee participation
• Maintain current ACLS and BLS certifications
