Summary

We are seeking a physician who is Board Certified or Board Eligible in Emergency Medicine to serve as a part-time physician in the Emergency Department at Madison - WI Veterans Hospital. The incumbent will admit, evaluate, diagnose, and provide appropriate treatment to patients, as defined by the American Board of Emergency Medicine.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Candidates pending completion of training or licensing may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled. Current VA employees who met previous qualification standards are deemed to meet the basic requirements.

• U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens only if recruitment of qualified citizens is not possible
• Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school
• Current, unrestricted medical license in the U.S.
• Completed residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification
• Proficiency in English
• Preferred: Board Certification in Emergency Medicine and 5+ years of experience
• Physical ability to perform duties, including walking, bending, stooping, lifting, and sitting

Duties

• Provide staffing for the Emergency Department at William S. Middleton Memorial Hospital, ensuring compliance with VA guidelines
• Contribute to ED process improvements and operational strategies
• Possess skills in CPR, defibrillation, ultrasound, and ventilation management
• Primarily work overnight shifts from 7 PM to 7 AM
• Oversee daily clinical and administrative operations of the ED
• Admit, evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients as per ABEM standards
• Participate in continuing education and quality assurance activities
• Maintain professionalism and ethical conduct
• Be available for on-call coverage, arriving within one hour during non-clinical hours
• Perform supervisory or collaborative roles with mid-level providers
• Engage in administrative duties, including committee participation
• Maintain current ACLS and BLS certifications
