Status: Full-Time

Job Summary

The Director of Supportive Care at Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center (BMDACC) will lead and develop a multidisciplinary supportive care program designed to enhance the quality of life for patients undergoing oncologic treatments. This role focuses on advanced symptom and pain management, advanced care planning, behavioral health and comprehensive palliative approach to cancer care across inpatient and outpatient settings. Hospice care is managed through a separate program within the health system.

This position provides an opportunity to establish and grow a new clinical program by shaping its strategic vision, offering medical direction, and leading a multidisciplinary team. There is potential for additional autonomy and responsibility as the program evolves.

The Director will oversee program development to ensure alignment with BMDACC’s mission of delivering evidence-based, research-driven, multidisciplinary care to patients with solid tumors and hematologic malignancies and join our rapidly growing and highly regarded faculty. BMDACC is the third partner member of the MD Anderson Cancer Network and the Southeastern United States’ patient care hub serving within the Cancer Network’s international program to elevate the quality of cancer care nationally and internationally.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership and Program Development

  • Define and execute the vision and strategy for supportive care services, adhering to best practices and national standards.
  • Oversee and provide expert consultation on symptom management, pain management, behavioral health, and palliative care interventions.
  • Collaborate with leadership at BMDACC and the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (UTMDACC) to implement evidence-based protocols and guidelines.
  • Identify service gaps and lead quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and satisfaction.
  • Foster collaboration with other specialties to deliver seamless, integrated multidisciplinary care.
  • Recruit, mentor, and manage a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, advanced practice providers, and other staff.
  • Cultivate a professional culture focused on growth, collaboration, and excellence.
  • Conduct regular team meetings to discuss cases, share knowledge, and develop the program.

Patient and Family Engagement

  • Guide patients and families through advanced care planning and complex decision-making processes.
  • Provide education and support to empower patients and families to participate fully in care plans.

Academic and Research Contributions

  • Partner with the clinical research program to facilitate access to clinical trials and conduct high-quality, protocol-driven research.
  • Encourage scholarly contributions and academic engagement within the field of supportive care.
  • Work with administrative leadership to develop and assist in the management of the annual budget for the Supportive Care Center.
  • Ensure program compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Represent the supportive care program in institutional committees, professional organizations, and external forums.

Minimum Requirements
  • At least five years of clinical and leadership experience in supportive or palliative care.
  • Proven expertise in symptom and pain management, advanced care planning, and palliative care.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Qualifications / Preferred
  • Experience in program development and interdisciplinary team management within an academic medical center or large healthcare system.
  • Familiarity with oncology care models and integrated care approaches.
License and Certification
Qualifications / Required
  • MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree with board certification in Palliative Care or a relevant specialty.
  • Current or obtainable active, unrestricted medical license in Florida.
