Summary

The VA San Diego Healthcare System is seeking an experienced Psychiatrist to serve as Deputy Associate Chief of Staff for Mental Health and Chief of Psychiatry. Reporting directly to the Associate Chief of Staff for Mental Health, the incumbent will lead a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary team dedicated to delivering high-quality psychiatric care to our nation's Veterans. Qualified applicants will be forwarded at regular intervals until the position is filled.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met previous qualification standards are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens are unavailable
• Degree of doctor of medicine or equivalent from an accredited school
• Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in the U.S.
• Residency training approved by the VA or equivalent
• Enrollment in ACGME/AOA accredited residency programs eligible for appointment as Physician Resident Providers
• Proficiency in spoken and written English
• Board Certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology

Preferred Experience:

• Background in Acute and Intensive Psychiatry
• Veterans Healthcare Administration experience
• Experience in clinical operations, teaching, research, and program evaluation
• Experience with VHA Quality Improvement initiatives

Duties

• Provide clinical oversight for all Psychiatry Service physicians and providers
• Lead a spectrum of psychiatric services including outpatient, inpatient, emergency, and neuromodulation (TMS and Ketamine)
• Oversee training programs for UC San Diego psychiatry residents, fellows, medical students, and trainees
• Balance administrative leadership with academic engagement, teaching, and research
• Guide performance improvement efforts and supervise staff
• Promote and support VA-approved research activities
• Work Schedule: 7:30am - 5:30pm, Monday through Friday
