PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Chief Claims Officer (CCO) is responsible for designing, overseeing, and directing the company's claims management strategy. Positioned to lead the Claims team, the CCO plays an important role in shaping the organization's claims philosophy and ensuring it aligns with overall business objectives. This includes balancing effective claims processing with risk mitigation. The CCO develops policies, frameworks, and procedures to guide the efficient resolution of claims.

Additionally, the Chief Claims Officer collaborates with other senior executives to integrate claims management into broader corporate strategies. This involves engaging in risk assessment, managing insurance portfolios, and contributing to the development of solutions that enhance operational efficiency. The CCO must stay informed about regulatory changes, technological advancements, and market trends that could impact claims operations, positioning the company to adapt competitively. Leadership, strategic insight, and a comprehensive understanding of the insurance field are essential qualities for anyone serving as a Chief Claims Officer.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Strategic Design/Implementation and Management

  • Provides strategic development, implementation and oversight of claims department with a focus on thought leadership, best practices, proactive resolution, lessons learned, and trend data analysis across all product lines.
  • Develops and implements claims policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Leads and mentors a team of claims professionals, providing guidance and support to enhance their performance and development.
  • Leads the continuous improvement efforts surrounding technological advancements, artificial intelligence, and predictive models enabling superior customer experience, improved outcomes, and cost efficiencies.
  • Oversees the investigation of complex and/or high-value claims, ensuring thorough and fair assessment and resolution.
  • Stays abreast of industry developments, emerging trends, and regulatory changes related to claims management, and incorporate best practices into the company's claims processes.
  • Provides advice on the resolution of claims files with ultimate authority over settlements / reserves within prescribed limits including oversight and strategy for large claims and overall litigation management.
  • Responsible for performance, development and coaching of staff that leads to a culture focused on results, while engaging and retaining talent.

Stakeholder Management and Collaboration

  • Collaborates with other departments, such as legal, underwriting and risk management, to develop strategies to mitigate risks and reduce claims frequency and severity.
  • Serves as a key point of contact for senior leadership, providing regular reports and updates on claims performance and trends.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with external stakeholders, such as regulatory agencies, legal counsel, and industry associations.
  • Possesses ability to effectively partner with IT to implement technology solutions that enhance a claim's lifecycle and the adjuster experience.
  • Partners with underwriting teams to provide insights regarding claims trends and developments.
  • Offers support and counsel in connection with new business opportunities.

Data and Quality Management

  • Analyzes claims data and trends to identify areas for improvement and implement strategies to enhance claims processing efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Develops and implements online solutions and dashboards to increase statistical analysis and tracking of KPI’s, bringing value to the business, and our customers.
  • Utilizes metrics and data to drive claim performance and lower loss costs through implementation of predictive modeling and benchmarking.
  • Monitors and analyzes data to ensure consistency in quality of reserving, strategies, and outcomes.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Leads the claims team and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws. These responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; conducting performance and salary reviews; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; coaching, mentoring, and developing team members to further their skills and knowledge; creating and monitoring development plans; setting performance expectations/goals; forecasting staffing needs and planning for peak times and absences; enforcing department policies and procedures.

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree required and or equivalent years of experience.
  • Minimum 10 years in an executive claim’s leadership role with significant experience in the proactive management of property and casualty claims, including specialty line products.

Knowledge And Skills

  • Understanding of actuarial pricing, reserving and claims analytics. Ability to define metrics and independently monitor trends and implications for optimizing claims strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives to improve claims processes and outcomes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data sets and draw actionable insights.
  • In-depth knowledge of insurance principles, regulations, and industry best practices related to claims management.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and technology platforms used in claims management.
  • An inclusive mindset and a team player with an open, transparent communication style.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • A hands-on management style and strong work ethic.
  • Insurance industry awareness and involvement.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Office environment – no specific or unusual physical or environmental demands and employees are regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, and hear. The position frequently requires employees to reach with hands and arms. This position requires more than 80% computer use.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position operates in an office environment and requires the frequent use of a computer, telephone, copier, and other standard office equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

The current range for this position is

$157,500.00 - $525,000.00

This range is exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses. If hired at ICW Group, your final base salary compensation will be determined by factors unique to each candidate, including experience, education and the location of the role and considers employees performing substantially similar work.
