Team and Environment

Join our Physician Practice Coding team, a supportive and experienced group with low turnover. We code for multiple specialties, including Surgical and Pediatric, with cross-training opportunities. Banner Health is a leading nonprofit healthcare system in the country.

Role Summary

As a fully remote Physician Coding Senior Coder, you will code Surgical procedures for the Pediatric team, focusing on multi-specialties including Surgical. Production expectations vary based on the type of coding (E/M, Procedures, or encounters).

Responsibilities

• Analyze medical records and accurately code diagnoses and procedures according to national guidelines.
• Consult with medical providers to clarify records and assign appropriate codes.
• Ensure compliance with coding rules, regulations, and standards from agencies like CMS, OIG, and HCFA.
• Abstract clinical data into electronic medical records, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
• Provide quality assurance and address complex coding issues.
• Mentor less experienced staff and participate in onboarding and training.
• Manage work independently, prioritizing tasks effectively.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED or equivalent, with formal training or an Associate’s degree in a related healthcare field.
• At least one certification such as CPC, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, or RHIT, active with AHIMA or AAPC.
• Minimum 5 years of complex professional coding experience in clinical specialties.
• Strong knowledge of ICD and CPT coding principles.
• Ability to work independently in a remote setting with good organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Radiology Certified Coder (RCC) or other specialty coding certifications.
