Job description

Summary

At the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center, the vascular surgeon serves as a member of the organized medical staff, functioning within the Medical Staff Bylaws and other VA regulations. Clinical privileges are established and approved through the Professional Standards Board at this medical center.

Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending training or license completion applicants may be considered tentatively. Current VA employees who previously met the qualification standards are deemed qualified.

  • Citizenship: U.S. citizen; non-citizens only if no qualified citizens are available
  • Education: MD or equivalent from an approved school
  • License: Current, unrestricted medical or surgical license in the U.S.
  • Residency: Completion of VA-approved residency in a core specialty leading to board eligibility
  • Board Certification: Required for the Chief of Vascular Surgery
  • Language: Proficiency in English
  • Physical Requirements: As per VA Directive 5019
Duties
  • Serve as the clinical expert for vascular services, supervising surgeons, APPs, and technicians
  • Establish operational policies, procedures, and work schedules to ensure timely care
  • Coordinate vascular clinics and collaborate with other service lines to meet veterans' needs
  • Develop business plans and workload analyses for staffing and expansion
  • Work with interdisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive patient care
  • Participate in quality management and improvement initiatives, including reviews and meetings
  • Supervise students and residents in vascular services
  • Perform clinical duties including surgeries, rounds, ER visits, and outpatient care
  • Manage clinic, ER, inpatient wards, and service recovery efforts
  • Oversee medical student and resident activities and vascular case prioritization
  • Manage surgical care, including diagnostics, procedures, and consultations
  • Ensure compliance with VA, Joint Commission, and other standards
  • Collaborate with the University of Pennsylvania on surgical candidate selection
  • Work in a team setting with various healthcare professionals
  • Utilize computer skills for documentation and orders
