Summary
At the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center, the vascular surgeon serves as a member of the organized medical staff and functions within the Medical Staff Bylaws and other rules and regulations of the Veterans Health Administration and the VA Medical Center. The clinical privileges are established and approved through the Professional Standards Board.
Duties
- The Chief of Vascular is the clinical expert for all vascular services, supervising surgeons, APPs, and Diagnostic Radiology Technicians reporting to Surgery.
- Establishes operational policies, procedures, work schedules to maintain timely care aligned with VHA goals.
- Coordinates vascular clinics and collaborates with other service lines to meet veteran needs and ensure high standards of care.
- Develops business plans and workload analyses to support staffing and resource expansion.
- Works with interdisciplinary teams including practitioners, nurses, residents, and students to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Evaluates care quality and participates in quality management programs and meetings.
- Supervises students and residents on vascular services, with clinical duties spanning OR, inpatient, ER, and outpatient visits.
- Participates in surgical quality and performance improvement initiatives.
- Manages clinic, ER, inpatient wards, and coordinates veteran service recovery and medical opinions.
- Oversees medical student and resident training, with oversight responsibilities at CMC VAMC and the University of Pennsylvania.
- Manages case prioritization, waiting times, and practitioner documentation.
- Conducts FPPE/OPPE reviews and staff performance evaluations.
- Handles full surgical care spectrum, including admissions, diagnostics, consultations, and procedures.
- Ensures all activities comply with VA, Joint Commission, and other standards.
- Works as part of a team with other healthcare professionals to deliver veteran care.
- Utilizes computer skills for documentation, orders, and consults.

Requirements

Qualifications
- MD or equivalent from an accredited school.
- Full, unrestricted medical license.
- Completed residency in an approved program.
- Board certification in vascular surgery.
- Proficiency in English.
