Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physicians in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
Basic Requirements:
- Citizenship: Must be a citizen of the United States
- Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an approved school by the Department of Veterans Affairs in the year of completion.
- Licensure & Registration: Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth, or District of Columbia.
- Residency Training: Completion of a residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty Cardiology/Interventional Residency Training Program leading to eligibility for board certification. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs are eligible as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed physicians and only appointed on an intermittent or fee basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners.
- Board Certification: Board Certification in Cardiology/Interventional is required.
- English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
- Preferred Experience: Experience in procedural Cardiology is highly preferred.
- Physical Requirements: Must pass a pre-employment physical, capable of moderate lifting, standing, bending, and other physical activities as detailed in the original description. Must be able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Duties
- This announcement has been amended to remove the COVID-19 vaccine statement as it is no longer required for VA employment. - Responsibilities include STEMI on-call (1 in 4), serving in the Cath Lab rotation, cardiology on-call (6 per year), outpatient and inpatient services, performing non-invasive studies (ECHO, ECG, Holter), and working with trainees.
- Work schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, with potential for various shifts based on facility needs.
