Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Qualifications
To qualify, applicants must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending completion of training or licensing requirements, applicants may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who initially met the qualification standards are deemed to have met the basic requirements.
Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens are unavailable, per VA policy.
- Degree of doctor of medicine or equivalent from an approved medical school.
- Current, full, and unrestricted medical or surgical license in the U.S.
- Residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification, in an accredited program.
- Enrolled residents in accredited programs may be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs) under supervision, not considered independent practitioners.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Physical requirements include repetitive movements, lifting, standing, walking, and patient care activities.
Duties
- Manage advanced heart failure patients, preferably with formal fellowship training.
- Participate in inpatient and outpatient care, teaching, and research related to cardiovascular diseases.
- Apply national and VA guidelines for patient management.
- Supervise trainees, including residents and fellows, and provide consultations.
- Perform procedures such as echocardiography, right heart catheterizations, stress testing, and interpretation of diagnostic tests.
- Coordinate post-transplant and LVAD patient care with other facilities.
- Contribute to education, service committees, and quality assurance programs.
- Utilize telehealth and electronic consultation services to improve access.
- Maintain professional standards and participate in performance improvement activities.
- Engage in total rewards programs, including education debt reduction, competitive salary, paid time off, retirement plans, insurance, licensure, CME reimbursement, and malpractice coverage.
- Work schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, with possible calls during weekends, evenings, and holidays.
