Job description

Summary

The VISN 10 National Cardiology Hub and Spoke Network is recruiting for a Cardiologist position within the Battle Creek Spoke and Saginaw Spoke locations. The Cardiologist functions as a clinical expert and is responsible and accountable for all elements of patient direct care.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing requirements may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial appointment requirements are deemed to have met the basic standards.

Basic Requirements
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed if qualified citizens cannot be recruited, in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved medical school.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
  • Residency Training: Completion of an approved residency program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Enrolled residents in accredited programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who are fully licensed but only perform supervised duties.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
Preferred Experience and Skills
  • MD degree with demonstrated excellence in clinical care and education.
  • Board Certified (or Board Eligible if finishing fellowship) in cardiovascular diseases.
  • Clinical responsibilities include outpatient consults, non-invasive study interpretation, and consultative services.
  • Ability to interpret electrocardiograms, Holter/event monitors, echocardiograms, and treadmill stress tests.
Physical and Other Requirements
  • Visual acuity, keen hearing, clear speech, manual dexterity.
  • Ability to perform physical activities such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing.
  • Potential exposure to infected patients and contaminated materials, requiring protective clothing.
  • Ability to work effectively in stressful situations and adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Travel for on-site patient care in high-risk areas.
Duties
  • Provide comprehensive cardiology care across designated facilities.
  • Supervise care provided by advanced practice providers.
  • Coordinate procedural care within the network.
  • Travel as needed within the network.
  • Work schedule: Monday - Friday, with telework available on an ad-hoc basis.
