Job summary

Mount Sinai Medical Center of Florida, Inc. is seeking a Collector – Physician Billing to manage physician accounts receivable, resolve denied and pending claims, and maximize reimbursement.

The role uses EPIC, performs insurance follow-up, prepares appeals, and maintains thorough documentation to meet productivity goals. Ideal candidates will have knowledge of physician billing, managed care plans, and strong analytical and communication skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Knowledge of physician billing, accounts receivable, and claims collection processes.
• Understanding of managed care plans (PPO, POS, HMO, Medicare, Medicaid).
• Experience with claim denials, appeals, insurance follow-up, and reimbursement resolution.
• Ability to navigate payer portals and billing systems, preferably EPIC.
• Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
• Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines in a high-volume environment.
• Team-oriented with a commitment to continuous learning and process improvement.

Responsibilities

• Learn EPIC Physician Billing system in order to successfully complete work assignments.
• Prioritize work tasks to maximize productivity and efficiency in an ongoing basis while maintaining accuracy.
• Work claims workqueues to resolve claim issues and identifying denied claims requiring the submission of appeals.
• Track submitted appeals for status and resolution; follow up on deferred claims for resolution.
• Maintain clear and concise documentation of all collection activity on each patient accounts; include claim issue and activity.
• Access and obtain claim information and eligibility using insurance payor portals (including SPOT) and contact payers to process pending claims.
• Review medical records to identify medical necessity and submit copies with reason for reconsideration for all appeals.
• Attend educational programs as assigned by manager and participate in team discussions.
• Organize work duties, recognize and resolve errors, and establish priorities to complete work without backlogs.
• Work as part of a team and share information to facilitate excellent quality performance.
• Seek information from team leader/manager/departments to resolve claim issues.
• Participate in completion of special collection projects by deadlines and show initiative to learn/improve skills.
• Any other duties as assigned.
