Job summary

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago is seeking a Professional Coder to conduct retrospective audits of ambulatory and inpatient physician documentation, ensuring billing accuracy and compliance.

You will educate physicians on coding guidelines and reconcile charges monthly to support accurate reimbursement. Minimum three years of coding experience with CPT/ICD-9 and E/M proficiency is required; CPC/CCS-P/CPMA certification is necessary.

Qualifications

• Certification as CPC, CCS-P, or CPMA required.
• High school diploma required.
• Minimum three years of coding experience required.
• Prior experience in E/M coding preferred.
• Pass CPT and ICD-9 coding tests required.
• Demonstrated knowledge of CPT/ICD-9 and E/M coding.

Responsibilities

• Review and audit physicians’ documentation in the medical record to verify CPT code accuracy.
• Determine visit, procedure and diagnosis codes based on documentation.
• Initiate corrections and resolve discrepancies.
• Educate physicians on documentation and coding guidelines.
• Present audit findings and recommendations to division heads and directors.
• Stay informed on coding guidelines and perform monthly reconciliations.
• Ensure timely submission of charges to billing services.
