Job Summary

The PA Surgical Specialty-Operative is a licensed, certified healthcare provider who actively renders direct patient care, possesses delegated prescriptive authority, and is credentialed and privileged. The service is billed as an independent provider, as recognized by Medicare and Medicaid, and in accordance with the appropriate board. The Physician Assistant provides medical care within the scope of practice outlined by the supervising physician. Surgical providers care for both adult and pediatric patients, specializing in various surgical fields including Urology.

Essential Functions Of The Role

• Assess physical and mental conditions through examinations and medical histories.
• Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to assess patient needs.
• Prescribe and recommend medical therapies and perform procedures in accordance with policies, focusing on safety and efficacy.
• Develop and implement patient treatment plans based on assessments, evidence-based medicine, and collaboration with the healthcare team.
• Counsel patients and families about medical processes, medication management, and health promotion.
• Maintain detailed records of treatment plans and outcomes, and initiate referrals when necessary.
• Provide consultation services related to the specialty and level of expertise.
• Manage patients in various healthcare settings beyond primary clinics, including inpatient and emergency settings.
• Perform invasive procedures delegated by the supervising physician.
• Follow up with patients pre- and post-operatively, including hospital rounds and emergency department visits.
• Participate in perioperative patient management across outpatient, inpatient, and surgical settings.
• Perform additional duties as needed based on department coverage requirements.

Key Success Factors

• Knowledge of diagnosis and treatment of injuries, diseases, and deformities, including drug interactions and preventive care.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• Proficiency with computers and medical software.
• Ability to develop comprehensive treatment plans and counsel patients effectively.
• Current Texas Physician Assistant license, NCCPA certification, and BLS certification within 30 days of hire.

Schedule

Day shift with hours varying based on surgical schedule, including inpatient and outpatient care.
