Job summary

Penn State Health - Hershey Medical Center is seeking a Medical Assistant to assist with patient care, collect specimens, and perform routine lab tasks. You will support administrative functions, coordinate patient flow, and help with scheduling and message handling.

The role requires a high school diploma, CMA/RMA certification or eligibility, and BLS. This is a PRN, on-site position in the Hershey area.

Qualifications

  • Must meet eligibility to sit for the Medical Assistant exam within 90 days or hold CMA/RMA certification.
  • Current CMA or RMA active certification required.
  • BLS certification required or obtained within 6 months.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with various health care services and specimen collection.
  • Conduce routine lab studies on specimens and manage specimen handling.
  • Provide administrative support such as coordinating patient flow and scheduling.
  • Handle phone messages and assist with appointment coordination.

SUMMARY OF POSITION

Responsible for providing assistance with various health care services, for obtaining specimens, for conducting routine lab studies of specimens, and for assisting with administrative functions such as coordinating patient flow and scheduling appointments and phone messages.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S)
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must meet current eligibility to sit for the exam with attainment of certification or registration through one of the Penn State Health approved agencies for Medical Assistants within 90-days of employment date or current active status as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through one of the Penn State Health approved agencies for Medical Assistant certification required.
  • Current active status as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through one of the Penn State Health approved agencies for Medical Assistant certification required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or must obtain BLS Certification within 6 months of employment date.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S)
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program
  • Previous outpatient experience preferred.
