SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Perform administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of a provider. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing, and coding information for insurance purposes. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, and administering medications as directed by provider.

They meet the needs of their patients with all their specialties mainly focused on Surgical, Medicine, and OBGYN. This clinic focuses on the following Specialties: Cardiology, Colon Rectal Surgery, CT Surgery, Dermatology, Endocrinology, Maternal Fetal Medicine, Minimally Invasive General and Bariatric Surgery, Nephrology, Neurology, Obstetrics, Gynecology, Orthopedics, Pain Management, Pediatric Cardiology, Pediatric Dermatology, Pediatric Orthopedics, Pediatric Surgery, Pediatric Urology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR), Podiatry, Urology, Rheumatology, Sports Medicine, Vascular Surgery.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES -The percentage of time spent performing essential functions is 95%. Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:

  • Perform routine procedures to include sterile dressings, E.K.G.'s, spirometries, bladder catheterizations, removal of sutures and clamps, and application of topical medications.
  • Assist physician/s with surgical procedures including removal and placement of gastrostomy tube, spinal taps, etc.
  • Use sterile technique when appropriate.
  • Place, remove, and record allergy patch testing results.
  • Conduct lab studies of specimens; determine test results and report findings to the physician or nurse.
  • Ensure availability of appropriate equipment, supplies, test results, medical records, etc.
  • Assist in scheduling patient appointments, tests and procedures, and in patient registration and discharge activities.
  • Complete appropriate paperwork.
  • Provide patients and families with prepared instructions relative to diagnostic testing and laboratory studies.
  • Calibrate, operate, and maintain medical equipment.
  • Document patient's data, actions, and information.
  • Take measurements of patient's blood pressure, vital signs, height and weight; recognize and report defined abnormal findings.
  • Perform first aid and CPR as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must meet current eligibility to sit for the exam with attainment of certification or registration through one of the Penn State Health approved agencies for Medical Assistants within 90-days of employment date or current active status as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through one of the Penn State Health approved agencies for Medical Assistant certification required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or must obtain BLS Certification within six (6) months of employment date.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program
  • Previous outpatient experience preferred.
