Job summary

Penn State Health - Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, PA seeks a Physician Assistant to support the Four Diamonds Pediatrics program with overnight inpatient coverage for pediatric hematology/oncology patients.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an AMA approved Physician Assistant Program meeting licensure requirements.
  • National Certification to practice as PA or licensure reciprocity.
  • BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overnight inpatient coverage for pediatric hematology/oncology patients including inpatients and home calls.
  • Evaluate and manage acute clinical concerns such as fever and neutropenia, pain crises, transfusion reactions, oncologic emergencies, chemotherapy toxicities and other urgent conditions.
  • Perform admissions, consultations, cross-coverage assessments, and discharge planning as appropriate.
  • Coordinate care with attending physicians, fellows, residents, nursing teams, and subspecialty consultants.
  • Respond to rapid clinical changes and participate in emergency management and stabilization of critically ill patients.
  • Facilitate safe and effective patient handoffs between daytime and nighttime providers.
  • Document patient encounters and treatment plans per institutional standards.
  • Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and educational initiatives within the division.

Hours: 8-5pm Monday - Friday

Position Highlights
  • Dedicated overnight schedule with predictable block scheduling
  • Practice within a nationally recognized academic children's hospital
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including pediatric oncology, hematology, stem cell transplant, critical care, infectious diseases, surgery, radiology, and supportive care services
  • Manage a diverse patient population including children with leukemia, lymphoma, solid tumors, brain tumors, sickle cell disease, bleeding disorders, and other complex hematologic conditions

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S)
  • Graduate of an AMA approved Physician Assistant Program or baccalaureate or higher degree program that meets licensure requirements in the State of employment
  • National Certification in State of employment or in another State with reciprocity and licensure to practice in the State of employment
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
