Responsibilities

• Provide post-operative care for cardiothoracic and vascular patients.
• Conduct emergency surgery on cardiothoracic/vascular cases as required.
• Take consults and referrals from ED, cath lab, and hospital providers.
• Perform vein harvesting during heart surgery.
• Assist in surgery and write prescriptions while coordinating patient care.
• Rounding and interpreting tests as part of daily duties.
• Order tests and manage retrieval of vascular tissues for bypass conduits.

Description:This is a locum position for a Physician Assistant specializing in Cardiothoracic Surgery.The role involves providing post-operative care for all types of cardiothoracic and vascular patients.You will be responsible for conducting emergency surgery on cardiothoracic and vascular patients.Taking consults and referrals from the emergency department, cath lab, and other hospital providers is required.You must be able to perform vein harvesting during heart surgery.Assisting in surgery is part of the position.You will write prescriptions and coordinate patient care.Rounding and interpreting tests will be part of your daily duties.You will also be responsible for ordering tests and the retrieval of vascular tissues for use as bypass conduits.Familiarity with electronic medical records/documentation software is essential.The average number of patients per day is 20-26 in an inpatient setting.Call coverage is required; you will be on call if assigned.The ideal candidate should be comfortable working weekends and managing patient care both during and after hours.
