The Anesthesia Service Chief will be directly accountable to the Medical Center Management Team for day-to-day administrative activities of the service and accountable to the Chief of Staff for clinical program activities and overall compliance with VISN-wide policies and procedures.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial appointment requirements are deemed to have met the basic requirements.
Basic Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens only if qualified citizens cannot be recruited)
- Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school
- Current unrestricted medical license in the U.S.
- Completed residency training in an approved program leading to eligibility for board certification
- Enrolled residents in ACGME/AOA accredited programs may be appointed as 'Physician Resident Providers' (PRPs), who are fully licensed but only appointed on an intermittent or fee basis and are not considered independent practitioners
- Proficiency in spoken and written English
- Must be Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellowship trained or have equivalent experience; proof of training required

Duties
- Formulate and recommend interdisciplinary service policies and establish administrative activities to ensure clinical program effectiveness
- Coordinate activities with other services and clinics for optimal patient care
- Define service requirements, functions, and scope to other services
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and collaborate on service initiatives
- Recommend qualified personnel and assess off-site sources for patient care needs
- Support service orientation and ongoing education
- Contribute to policy development affecting patient care
- Participate in committees and groups to influence policy changes
- Promote staff development and maintain awareness of policies and directives
- Maintain effective relationships with union representatives and collaborate on policy planning
