Job summary

Covenant Living Communities and CovenantCare Home Health and Hospice in California is seeking a Physical Therapy Assistant to provide direct PT services under the supervision of the licensed physical therapist and according to the physician’s plan of care.

You will guide patients through therapeutic exercises, gait training, and assistive device use, while documenting progress and communicating changes to the PT.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Therapy approved by an accredited organization.
  • PT License and CPR certification, if required by state.
  • Experience: 1+ years.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct physical therapy under the direction of the physical therapist.
  • Treat patients to relieve pain and restore function.
  • Direct and assist patients with active and passive therapeutic exercises and gait training.
  • Utilize modalities such as heat, cold, ultrasound, and massage as directed.
  • Maintain records and notes in the patient’s clinical record.

We Are Inspired to Serve. Join us! The physical therapy assistant provides physical therapy services under the direction of the physical therapist and according to the physician’s plan of care.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Provides direct physical therapy according to directions of the physical therapist and in accordance with the physician’s plan of care.
  • Treats patients to relieve pain, develop or restore function, and maintain maximum performance.
  • Directs and aids patients in active and passive therapeutic exercises, muscle re‑education, gait and functional training, transfer activities and prosthetic training.
  • Utilizes physical agents, including but not limited to heat, cold, water, light, electricity, ultrasound, and massage.
  • Observes and reports to the physical therapists and organization personnel the patients’ reaction to treatment and any changes in patients’ condition.
  • Instructs patients in care and use of wheelchairs, braces, crutches, canes, and prosthetic or orthotic devices.
  • Maintains necessary records, clinical notes and conference notes to be incorporated into the patients’ clinical record in prescribed time frames.
  • Participates in organization home‑care team member meetings and in‑service education programs.
Education and Work Experience
  • Required Degree: Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Therapy approved by an accredited organization.
  • Preferred Degree: N/A
  • Certificates: PT License and CPR certification, if required by state.
  • Experience: 1+ years.
Knowledge, Skills, and Ability
  • Ability to show compassion and understanding.
  • Ability to record patients’ information, document progress, and report results to the physical therapist.
  • Ability to follow direction and help a physical therapist manage multiple patients by assisting during sessions.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, attention to detail, and time‑management skills.
  • Knowledge of basic PT/medical terminology, confidentiality, and HIPAA laws.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, sit, talk, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull light to moderate amounts of weight up to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to operate various equipment based on department.
  • Ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds (e.g., machinery alarms, medical codes or alarms).
Clarity of Vision
  • Near visual acuity: clarity of vision at approximately 20 inches or less (e.g., working with small objects or reading small print), including use of computers.
  • Far visual acuity: clarity of vision at 20 feet or more, including ability to recognize features as well.
  • Peripheral vision: observing an area that can be seen up and down or to right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point.
Compensation Pay Range

$29.77 - $40.98 per hour

Reasonable Pay Estimate

A reasonable estimate of the pay range for this position is $29.77 - $40.98 per hour. Factors considered include job-related qualifications, experience, skills, education, geographic location, and internal and external equity.
