Job summary

Covenant Living in California is seeking a Physical Therapy Assistant to provide direct PT services under the supervision of a PT and per the physician’s plan of care. You will help patients relieve pain and restore function through therapeutic exercises and modalities.

Responsibilities include documenting progress, communicating with the PT team, and contributing to patient care plans while maintaining HIPAA standards and high-quality care.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited organization.
  • PT License and CPR certification, if required by state.
  • Experience: 1+ years in physical therapy settings.

  • Provide direct physical therapy under the direction of a licensed physical therapist.
  • Treat patients to relieve pain and restore or maintain function.
  • Guide patients in exercises, gait training, and prosthetic training as directed.

The physical therapy assistant provides physical therapy services under the direction of the physical therapist and according to the physician’s plan of care.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides direct physical therapy according to directions of physical therapist and in accordance with the physician’s plan of care.
  • Treats patient to relieve pain, develop or restore function, and maintain maximum performance.
  • Directs and aids patients in active and passive therapeutic exercises, muscle reeducation gait and functional training, transfer activities and prosthetic training.
  • Utilizes physical agents, including but not limited to heat, cold, water, light, electricity, ultrasound and massage.
  • Observes and reports to the physical therapists and the organization personnel the patients reaction to treatment and any changes in patients condition.
  • Instructs patients in care and use of wheelchairs, branches, crutches, canes and prosthetic or orthotic devices.
  • Maintains necessary records, clinical notes and conference notes which will be incorporated into the patients clinical record in prescribed time frames.
  • Participates in organization home care team members meetings and inservice education program.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Required Degree: Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Therapy approved by an accredited organization.
  • Preferred Degree: N/A
  • Certificates: PT License and CPR certification, if required by state.
  • Experience: 1+ years.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY
  • Ability to show compassion and understanding.
  • Ability to record patients information, document their progress and report results of treatment to the physical therapist.
  • Ability to follow direction and help physical therapist manage multiple patients by assisting during sessions.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, attention to detail and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of basic PT/medical terminology, confidentiality and HIPAA laws.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to stand, sit, talk, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight up to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to operate various equipment based on department.
  • The ability to hear, understand and distinguish speech and/or other sounds (e.g., machinery alarms, medical codes or alarms. Four hearing requirements listed: In person speech, telephone, other remote speech and other sounds).
CLARITY OF VISION
  • For near visual acuity: clarity of vision at approximately 20 inches or less (i.e., working with small objects or reading small print), including use of computers.
  • For far visual acuity: clarity of vision at 20 feet or more. This is not just the ability to see a person or object, but the ability to recognize features as well.
  • For peripheral vision: observing an area that can be seen up and down or to right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point.
COMPENSATION

$29.77 - $40.98 per hour.

REASONABLE PAY ESTIMATE

A reasonable estimate of the pay range for this position is $29.77 - $40.98 per hour. There are numerous factors taken into consideration in determining the actual offered rate of pay, including but not limited to: job-related qualifications, experience, skills, education, geographic location and consideration of internal and external equity.
