Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Physical Therapy Assistant to provide group and individual therapy for neuromuscular and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. The position requires an accredited PTA associate degree, current MA PT licensure, and successful PTA board exam completion.

Qualifications

• Associates degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited PTA program.
• Current license to practice Physical Therapy in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
• Successful completion of Board Examination of PTA.

Responsibilities

• Provides group and individual treatment to restore and/or maximize neuromuscular, musculoskeletal and activities of daily living functions.
• Educates patient in exercise, compensatory strategies and life management skills to promote wellness and prevent health decompensation.
• Addresses age-specific needs for populations treated including infants and children, adolescents, adults, geriatrics and frail elderly.
• Educates patient, family and other caregivers in therapy program and goals; participates in patient care meetings; collaborates with team members; assists discharge planning.
• Assesses effect of treatment rendered and communicates recommendation for program changes to supervising therapist.
• Documents care provided in medical record and completes therapy billing.
• Completes department statistics; maintains a safe, orderly environment; assists with inventory and purchasing as assigned.
• Delegates tasks to rehabilitation aides, students and volunteers, supervising quality of care and performance; provides student supervision.
