Job summary

Job Summary

Responsibilities

• Patient Care: Assist physical therapists in implementing and modifying treatment plans based on patients’ needs and progress. Provide hands-on therapy, including exercises, manual therapy, and modalities as directed.
• Assessment & Documentation: Collect and document patient data, including progress notes, treatment outcomes, and responses to therapy. Report any changes in patients' conditions to the physical therapist.
• Education & Support: Educate patients and their families about therapeutic exercises, equipment use, and strategies for enhancing functional independence. Offer guidance on home exercise programs and preventive care.
• Equipment Management: Set up and maintain therapeutic equipment and assist patients with the use of therapeutic devices and aids.
• Collaboration: Work collaboratively with physical therapists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a cohesive approach to patient care. Participate in care team meetings and contribute to the development of individualized care plans.
• Compliance & Safety: Adhere to facility policies, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements. Maintain a clean and safe therapy environment.

Qualifications

• Education: Associate’s degree in Physical Therapy Assisting from an accredited program. Licensure: Current state licensure or certification as a Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) in New York HERE
• Experience: Previous experience in a skilled nursing or rehabilitation setting preferred but not required.

Skills

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and provide compassionate patient care. Proficiency in basic computer skills for documentation purposes.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and move patients, perform physical tasks, and handle equipment as required for therapy sessions.
