Job summary

Nexus Children's Hospital - Dallas is seeking a Physical Therapist to provide individualized care to children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental disorders, neurological impairments, and complex medical and behavioral needs. You will evaluate each patient’s abilities, develop meaningful treatment goals, and provide therapy that helps them gain greater independence.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy is required. A master’s degree or Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) is strongly preferred.
• At least two years of clinical physical therapy experience.
• Current Texas licensure as a Physical Therapist.
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross that will remain valid for at least six months from the date of hire.
• Experience evaluating movement and developing evidence-based treatment plans for patients with complex needs.
• Strong documentation skills and experience using an electronic health record.
• The ability to explain clinical goals and treatment recommendations clearly to patients, families, and team members.
• Sound clinical judgment, organization, adaptability, and a patient-centered approach.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive physical therapy evaluations of gross motor skills, gait, balance, coordination, and functional mobility.
• Develop individualized treatment plans with measurable goals based on the patient’s needs and care team input.

About the opportunity

Nexus Children's Hospital - Dallas is seeking a Physical Therapist to provide individualized care to children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental disorders, neurological impairments, and complex medical and behavioral needs. Our patients may need support with mobility, motor control, balance, coordination, and everyday functional movement.

In this role, you will evaluate each patient’s abilities and challenges, develop meaningful treatment goals, and provide therapy that helps them gain greater independence. You will work closely with physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, and behavioral health professionals to ensure therapy fits the patient’s broader plan of care.

This position is well suited to a PT who enjoys complex clinical work, values interdisciplinary collaboration, and can adapt treatment to each patient’s medical, sensory, and behavioral needs.

What you’ll do

• Conduct comprehensive physical therapy evaluations, including assessments of gross motor skills, gait, balance, coordination, postural alignment, motor control, and functional mobility.
• Develop individualized treatment plans with measurable goals based on the patient’s needs, clinical findings, and input from the patient, family, and care team.
• Provide evidence-based interventions focused on functional movement, motor learning, task‑specific training, strength, balance, and mobility.
• Select and use appropriate therapeutic techniques and adaptive equipment, which may include gait trainers, standers, and orthotics.
• Monitor patient response and progress, adjusting treatment plans as medical conditions, behavioral needs, and functional goals change.
• Collaborate with behavioral health professionals to deliver therapy in a trauma‑informed, behavior‑sensitive manner that accounts for sensory processing and emotional regulation needs.
• Partner with occupational therapists, speech‑language pathologists, physicians, nurses, and other team members during rounds, case conferences, and care planning.
• Involve families and caregivers in goal‑setting, therapy education, and home programming to support continued progress.
• Educate patients and families on mobility strategies, equipment use, therapy goals, and ways to reinforce skills outside treatment sessions.
• Complete evaluations, treatment notes, progress reports, and discharge documentation accurately and on time in the electronic health record.
• Advocate for appropriate adaptive equipment, services, and community resources that support patient mobility and independence.
• Participate in quality improvement efforts and help maintain a safe, supportive treatment environment.
• Stay current with physical therapy research, clinical guidelines, and continuing education requirements.

What you’ll bring
