Job summary

Nexus Children’s Hospital – Dallas is seeking a Physical Therapist Assistant to support pediatric patients with neurodevelopmental needs. Under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist, you will implement individualized treatment plans to improve mobility, safety, and participation in daily activities.

Qualifications

• Associate degree from a CAPTE-accredited PTA program.
• Current Texas PTA licensure.
• At least six months of acute care or rehab experience.
• BLS certification valid for at least six months from hire.
• Experience with therapeutic exercise, mobility training, adaptive equipment, and clinical documentation.
• Strong communication and ability to build rapport with children and families.
• Ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and adapt to changing patient needs.

Responsibilities

About the opportunity

Nexus Children’s Hospital – Dallas is seeking a Physical Therapist Assistant to help children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental disorders and complex medical and behavioral needs improve their mobility and daily function.

Working under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist, you will carry out individualized treatment plans and help patients practice the movement skills they need for greater safety, participation, and independence. You will be part of an interdisciplinary team that considers each patient’s physical, developmental, sensory, and behavioral needs.

This role is a strong fit for a PTA who enjoys hands-on rehabilitation, communicates well with families, and can adapt care to patients with complex needs.

What you’ll do

• Deliver physical therapy interventions under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist and in accordance with each patient’s established treatment plan.
• Guide patients through therapeutic exercises and activities that support motor control, posture, balance, mobility, and functional movement.
• Help patients practice skills that improve their participation in daily activities.
• Use assistive technology and adaptive equipment to support treatment goals and patient safety.
• Observe and document patient response, progress, and changes in function; communicate findings to the supervising Physical Therapist.
• Adjust treatment activities in collaboration with the supervising Physical Therapist as patient needs and responses change.
• Work with occupational therapists, behavioral specialists, nurses, physicians, and other care team members to coordinate treatment.
• Adapt your approach to each patient’s developmental, sensory, medical, and behavioral needs.
• Educate patients and caregivers on prescribed home exercises, safe mobility strategies, and equipment use.
• Complete accurate, timely documentation in the electronic health record.
• Participate in team discussions, quality improvement efforts, in-service training, and continuing education.
• Maintain a safe, supportive environment and use hospital resources responsibly.

What you’ll bring

• An associate degree from a Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE)-accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
• Current Texas licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant.
• At least six months of experience in an acute care hospital or rehabilitation center setting.
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross that will remain valid for at least six months from the date of hire.
• Experience with therapeutic exercise, mobility training, adaptive equipment, and clinical documentation.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with children, adolescents, and families.
• The ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and respond thoughtfully to changing patient needs.

One to two years of pediatric or neurodevelopmental rehabilitation experience is preferred. Experience with patients who have behavioral challenges or complex medical needs is especially valuable. Additional physical therapy or behavioral health certifications are a plus. De-escalation training must be completed within 30 days of hire.
