Job summary

Methodist Hospital Metropolitan, part of HCA Healthcare, seeks a Physical Therapist to specialize in neonatal care with additional hours in adult acute care within our NICU and dedicated women’s pavilion. You will support newborns and families in a leading urban center recognized for excellence.

Expect to apply evidence-based therapies, monitor progress, educate families, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team while mentoring therapy staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science or higher in Physical Therapy from an accredited university.
• Texas State Board licensure (ECPTOTE).
• 3 years of children’s acute care experience or 1 year NICU experience; acute care preferred.

Responsibilities

• Neonatal and adult care planning for NICU with adult care as census shifts.
• Evidence-based interventions to restore movement and reduce pain.
• Progress tracking and timely documentation of outcomes.
• Family and patient education on exercises and safe practices.
• Interdisciplinary collaboration with physicians and care teams.
• Clinical leadership by mentoring therapy assistants or students.

Job Summary and Qualifications

This unique role allows you to specialize in neonatal care while maintaining diverse clinical skills, serving primarily in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with additional hours in adult acute care based on patient census. You will work within our dedicated women’s pavilion—the only freestanding facility in downtown San Antonio focused entirely on women and newborns—while contributing to a hospital recognized by Modern Healthcare as a Best Place to Work.

Your Role Will Include

• Neonatal & Adult Care: Evaluate patient abilities and develop personalized treatment plans primarily for our NICU, adapting to adult acute care as census shifts.




• Evidence‑Based Interventions: Deliver therapies that restore movement, reduce pain, and enhance quality of life across diverse age groups.




• Progress Tracking: Monitor outcomes, refine therapy plans, and ensure accurate, timely documentation.




• Family & Patient Education: Guide families on exercises, adaptive techniques, and safe practices to promote independence.




• Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with physicians and care teams to ensure cohesive, patient‑centered care and smooth transitions.




• Clinical Leadership: Mentor therapy assistants or students while upholding HCA Healthcare’s values of excellence, compassion, and integrity.

What Qualifications You Will Need

• Degree: Bachelor of Science or higher degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited university.




• Licensure: Physical Therapy License issued by the Texas State Board (ECPTOTE).




• Experience: Requires either 3 years of children’s acute care experience OR 1 year of NICU experience. General experience in an Acute or Inpatient Physical Therapy setting is preferred.




• Certification: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) obtained within 30 days of employment.
