POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides treatment to patients by evaluating their function and selecting and applying appropriate treatments to improve or restore function. Participates in an interdisciplinary approach for in-service and community education, and in the clinical education of affiliating students. Potentially may be responsible for cross-site coverage.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
- Graduate of an accredited program of Physical Therapy with a minimum of a B.S.
- Must hold a current Connecticut license in Physical Therapy.
COMPETENCIES:
- Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficiency in Windows-based programs needed for department functions.
- Basic keyboarding skills and familiarity with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and internet search capabilities are desirable.
- Access to reliable transportation to travel between multiple work sites; travel is required to perform essential duties.

- Evaluates patients based on departmental standards.
- Conducts and modifies evaluations based on patient's symptoms, activity level, and medical status, establishing individualized, measurable goals.
- Treats patients with appropriate therapeutic exercises (strength, endurance, coordination, ROM).
- Administers physical agents (modalities) and manual techniques to relieve pain and attain goals.
- Uses effective techniques to normalize motor activity and learning.
- Educates patients/families on home exercise programs and functional activities to maximize independence.
- Determines when a patient has achieved maximal benefit and recommends discharge if appropriate.
- Documents in accordance with insurance guidelines and department policies.
- Fosters interdepartmental communication and communicates with referring physicians regarding patient care.
- Accurately and consistently submits charges daily.
- Adheres to the professional code of ethics established by the APTA and the facility.
- Performs duties with proper body mechanics and safety.
- Supervises at least one affiliated student per year.
- Attends continuing education courses to improve treatment techniques.
- Participates in departmental or community in-services, as evidenced by documentation.
