San Francisco (on-site strongly preferred; remote considered, US only)
10-15 hours/week for 1 month (possible extension)
$70 - $140/hr
You will work with an applied AI research lab at the intersection of healthcare and AI. We're looking for licensed physical therapists to bring real rehabilitation judgment into how AI is tested and improved.
This is a part-time contract role that fits alongside clinical practice. No coding or AI experience is required; we'll teach you the tools. What matters most is your clinical eye: catching the red flag in a referral or the change in a progress note that should alter the plan of care.
Clinical judgment is hard to teach, and that's where you come in. You'll partner with our researchers to show them what good care looks like in rehabilitation, from referrals, evaluations and plans of care to the decisions that never make it into a textbook.
You'll then put that expertise into practice by authoring clinical cases from the ground up. For each one, you'll assemble a realistic patient chart, pose the clinical question, answer it yourself, and decide what separates a strong response from a weak or unsafe one.
Active, unrestricted physical therapist license in any US state
Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), or an MPT/BSPT with equivalent clinical experience
3+ years of direct, hands-on patient care as a licensed PT
Currently practicing, or in clinical practice within the last 3 years
Experience in at least two practice settings (for example, outpatient, acute care, inpatient rehab, skilled nursing, home health or pediatrics)
Working knowledge of current clinical practice guidelines and standard outcome measures
Excellent written English: you can explain your clinical reasoning precisely and concisely
Able to commit 10-15 hours per week for at least 1 month (possible extension)
None of these are required. If you have a few, we especially want to hear from you.
ABPTS board certification in any specialty (for example, OCS, NCS, SCS, GCS, PCS, CCS or WCS)
Residency or fellowship training, including FAAOMPT
Experience in less common areas such as vestibular, pelvic health, oncology, wound care, lymphedema or cardiopulmonary rehab
Strong command of documentation and payer rules (SOAP notes, plans of care, progress notes, Medicare requirements)
Writing exam questions for the NPTE, a DPT program or continuing education courses
Clinical instructor or DPT faculty experience
Chart audit, utilization review, quality assurance or compliance work
Peer reviewing for journals, or clinical research experience
You make consistent, well-reasoned judgments across many similar cases, and you can point to the specific evidence behind each one
You enjoy building the hard case: the atypical presentation, the conflicting history, the patient who doesn't fit the textbook
You work independently, hit agreed timelines, and are comfortable giving and receiving direct written feedback
You care about getting each case right more than producing a lot of them
