Job summary

Brookhaven Center is seeking a Physical Therapist Assistant to implement therapy programs and provide treatments under the supervision of a Licensed Physical Therapist. The PTA will support residents to increase independence and function in a team-focused setting.

Responsibilities

• Implements resident’s individualized treatment plan under supervision.
• Provides PT treatments including modalities and exercises.
• Assists the PT during tests, evaluations and complex procedures.
• Facilitates group treatment with the PT.
• Instructs residents and caregivers in therapy techniques.
• Coordinates with the rehab team to develop resident programs.
• Maintains timely documentation for treated residents.
• Attends care and staffing meetings as PT representative.
• Cleans and reports equipment needs; maintains safety.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Physical Therapist Assistant implements physical therapy programs and provides physical therapy treatments to residents to facilitate increased independence and functioning under the supervision of a Licensed Physical Therapist at Brookhaven Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare.

RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Implements resident’s individualized treatment plan as defined by the primary Physical Therapist;

• Provides individualized physical therapy treatments including modalities and exercises;

• Acts as an assistant to the Physical Therapist when the Physical Therapist is performing tests, evaluations, and complex procedures;

• Organizes and facilitates treatment groups in consultation with the physical therapist;

• Instructs residents, families and other caregivers in the skills and techniques of the physical therapy treatment program under the supervision of the Physical Therapist;

• Works with other members of the rehabilitation team to develop programs and activities consistent with the needs and capabilities of each resident;

• Maintains appropriate and timely resident and non-resident documentation for all residents treated;

• Attends and contributes to resident care, staffing and other required meetings as a representative of physical therapy, under the direction of the physical therapist;

• Cleans, maintains, identifies, and reports the need for repair of equipment, as necessary;

• Ensures that residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere that recognizes the individuals’ needs and rights.

SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant Program certified by the American Physical Therapy Association.

• Licensed as required by the State.
