Responsibilities

The Home Health Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA, LPTA) performs treatments, provides exercise instruction, and educates patients to improve their well-being, following the established plan of care.

• Follow all state-specific laws governing physical therapy in home care, adhering to the treatment plan set by the supervising PT. Perform only procedures you are qualified for and trained in. Make recommendations for changes in the plan of care to the supervising Physical Therapist.
• Instruct and assist patients with active and passive exercises, muscle re-education, gait, functional activities, activities of daily living (ADL), transfers, safety, and prosthetic training.
• Observe, record, and report to the supervising PT, nurse, and/or physician the patient's response to treatment and any changes in their condition. Coordinate care with other healthcare team members as appropriate.
• Educate the patient, family, caregiver, and other healthcare team members within your scope of practice as a physical therapy assistant.

Education and Experience

License Requirements

• Current license, registration, or certification to practice physical therapy in your state.
• Current CPR certification.
• Valid driver's license, vehicle insurance, and access to reliable transportation.
