Responsibilities

The Home Health Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA, LPTA) performs treatment, provides exercise instruction, and patient education aimed at improving the patient's well-being while following the established plan of care.

• Follow all state-specific laws governing physical therapy in home care. Perform only procedures qualified and trained for, and follow the treatment plan set by the supervising PT. Make recommendations for changes to the plan of care.
• Instruct and assist patients with active and passive exercises, muscle re-education, gait, functional activities, ADL, transfers, safety, and prosthetic training.
• Observe, record, and report patient responses and changes to the supervising PT, nurse, or physician. Coordinate care with other healthcare team members as appropriate.
• Educate patients, families, caregivers, and healthcare team members within the scope of practice of the physical therapy assistant.

Education and Experience

License Requirements

• Current license, registration, or certification to assist in physical therapy practice in the state of practice.
• Current CPR certification.
• Valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and access to reliable transportation.
