Qualifications

  • Associate degree from an approved PTA program.
  • Current Texas State Licensure (PTA).
  • Graduates eligible for licensure will be considered.
  • CPR/BLS certification.

  • Observes and documents patient responses and progress.
  • Fits and trains patients with braces, prostheses, and mobility aids.
  • Performs clerical duties as needed.

  • Provides feedback to enhance department operations and documents care.
  • Uses information systems to access and document patient care information.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

Performs components of physical therapy procedures and related tasks selected by a supervising physical therapist; assist physical therapists in providing services that help improve mobility, relieve pain, and prevent or limit permanent physical disabilities of patients suffering from injuries or disease.

  • 1. Administers therapeutic exercises and physical therapy modalities according to the physical therapy plan of care
  • 2. Instructs, motivates and Assists patients to learn and improve functional activity, such as pre-ambulation, transfer, ambulation and daily living activities
  • 3. Observes patients during treatments, Assesses, and compiles data on patients’ responses to treatments and progress and reports verbally or in writing to the physical therapist; may communicate updates to physicians
  • 4. Fit patients for, adjusts, and trains patients in the use and care of orthopedic braces, prostheses, and supportive devices, such as crutches, canes, walkers and wheelchairs
  • 5. May perform clerical duties
  • 6. Promotes and Supports positive and professional customer service, while interacting with clients, guests and hospital personnel. Works collaboratively with all members of the interdisciplinary team, other departments and disciplines to assure patients and customer’s needs are met in a timely manner. Encourages the active participation of the patient and/or family in goal setting and patient/family training/education
  • 7. Provides positive and constructive feedback to enhance departmental operations. Completes all necessary documentation as outlined by departmental policy and documentation review. This includes, but is not limited to, patient care charting, charge entry, completing peer chart and peer reviews, and documenting on daily schedule
  • 8. Utilizes available information management systems to support departmental and hospital goals. This includes utilization of hospital wide e-mail, information announcements, policies, annual computer mandatories, charge entry, and accessing patient care related information. Access and use of information will meet hospital and information management guidelines
Job Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Associate’s Degree from an approved program for Physical Therapist Assistants
  • Current Texas State Licensure (PTA)
  • Graduates eligible for licensure will be considered
  • CPR/BLS certification

St. Luke's Health - Patients Medical Center provides inpatient and outpatient medical and surgical services to residents of Pasadena, Deer Park, La Porte, Baytown, and Clear Lake. The facility includes 53 medical/surgical beds, eight ICU beds and three endoscopy rooms, and offers a range of primary and specialized services—wound care, general surgery, gastroenterology, occupational health, heart and vascular, women’s services, diagnostic imaging, outpatient rehab services, and sleep disorders.
