Job summary

University of Miami Health System in South Florida seeks a part-time Physical Therapist to join our rehabilitation team. You will evaluate new patients, establish goals and treatment plans, progress patients through levels, and document all interactions.

You will educate patients and families, communicate with physicians, supervise PT students, and participate in quality improvement and staff development. This role involves collaboration with a broad clinical team and community education efforts.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree in relevant field is required.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience required.
  • Valid State of Florida Physical Therapist license required.
  • Refer to department description for applicable certification requirements.

Department Specific Functions
Functions
  • Utilizes treatment tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
    • Walker, crutches, cane, wheelchair, lift equipment, hospital beds, commodes, goniometer, traction units, ultrasound machine, electrical stimulation machines, iontophoresis, vasopneumatic pump, cuff weights, pulley weights, isokinetic exercise equipment, and general office equipment (telephone, computer, facsimile machine, and copier).
  • Communicate with physicians and their staff directly, or electronically, by phone, or in writing. Obtain necessary additional information and suggest revisions in treatment as appropriate.
  • Maintains a satisfactory level of productivity and demonstrates willingness to adjust personal schedule in case of crisis or real clinic need.
  • Participate in quality and safety improvement activities as directed by the Satellite / Facility Clinical Coordinator.
  • Orient, instruct and direct work activities for assistants and support personnel.
  • Participate in program development and marketing efforts as directed by the Department Director.

  • Provide or participate in educational programs for staff, patients, and the community at large.
  • Attends non-departmental Grand Rounds to represent the Department of Physical Therapy and acquire information from our larger medical community to disseminate relevant information for staff development and service delivery.
  • Participate in reviewing current evidence-based interventions, and may perform data collection or participate in a publishing effort for publication or quality improvement.
  • Serves as an advanced clinician to support the department’s educational mission through mentorship and training of residents and students, and provide support for the health system’s development initiatives.
  • Demonstrates advancement effort of professional development and serves as a role model for junior clinicians.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Satellite / Facility Clinical Coordinator, or Associate Chair for Clinical Service.
