Job description

Title: Physical Therapist

Position: Part-time

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited program in physical therapy.
  • Illinois licensure.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Prior experience in the treatment of individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Professional appearance.
  • Ability to function independently as a physical therapist without direct or indirect supervision.

Basic Job Responsibilities:

The physical therapist will provide services to individuals within the Milestone system, including group homes and work sites. Responsibilities include evaluating physical needs, recommending programming, and assessing factors such as muscle tone, range of motion, muscle strength, postural deviations, positioning, transfers, motor skills, mobility, gait analysis, adaptive equipment needs, assistive devices, therapeutic handling, and orthotics.

I. Evaluation:

  • Utilize standardized and non-standardized assessments to evaluate individuals.
  • Set goals and formulate exercise plans or programming recommendations based on individual needs.
  • Regularly reassess progress and adjust plans as necessary.

II. Treatment:

  • Provide direct treatment as indicated by evaluations.
  • Train staff to facilitate the functional abilities of individuals.
  • Document services provided in accordance with Milestone, state, and federal regulations.
  • Participate in wheelchair clinics to ensure proper positioning of individuals.

III. Consultation:

  • Conduct in-service training for supervisory, administrative, and direct care staff on physical therapy techniques and concepts.
  • Foster a constructive atmosphere for problem-solving and interchange.
  • Serve as a member of the interdisciplinary team, offering recommendations to maximize individuals' functioning.

Physical Demands:

I. Work Locations:

  • Duties are performed indoors at Milestone-operated structures.
  • Occasional work in hallways or areas with dust or debris.
  • Facilities are generally air-conditioned, ventilated, and heated.
  • Occasional exposure to cleaning supply or bathroom odors.

II. Work Postures:

  • Up to 50% of the time spent walking, standing, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, or stooping.
  • The remainder of the time is spent sitting for documentation and development of treatment plans.

III. Lifting and Carrying:

  • Frequent lifting of 25-50 pounds; occasional lifting of 51-75 pounds.
  • Frequent carrying of items weighing 20 pounds or less.

IV. Auditory and Visual:

  • Adequate visual acuity for reading small print.
  • Adequate hearing for communication with staff and individuals.

V. Psychological:

  • Strong interpersonal skills for interaction with individuals and staff.
  • Ability to handle demands from a wide variety of sources, including individuals, family, staff, and accrediting/licensing agencies.

Pay Range: $51.00 - 67.16

Benefits: Milestone offers all full-time employees medical, dental, life, 401k, and other voluntary insurance on the first of the month following sixty days of employment. Part-time employees are offered dental insurance on the first of the month following sixty days of employment. Personal days are accrued every quarter based on your seniority. Vacation time begins after six months of employment.
