Responsibilities

As a PTA, you play a vital role in the rehabilitation team, working under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist to help patients regain movement, reduce pain, and restore function after injury, illness, or surgery. Your primary responsibilities include:

  1. Patient Care Implementation: Assist in executing treatment plans designed by the physical therapist to meet patients' rehabilitation goals and needs.
  2. Therapeutic Exercise and Activities: Guide patients through prescribed exercises and activities, instruct on proper techniques, monitor progress, and provide feedback to ensure safe and effective recovery.
  3. Modalities and Physical Agents: Apply treatment modalities correctly, monitor patient responses, and adjust as needed to achieve optimal outcomes.
  4. Patient and Family Education: Educate patients and families on injury prevention, proper body mechanics, and pain management techniques.
  5. Progress Monitoring and Reporting: Track patient responses to treatments, document progress, and communicate updates to the supervising physical therapist for necessary adjustments.
Qualifications
  • Degree from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program
  • Current license or certification in the state of practice
