Responsibilities

• You will serve as a PHYSICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN in the RADIOLOGICAL MONITORING DIVISION (CODE 105.3) of the RADIOLOGICAL CONTROL OFFICE (CODE 105) located in KITTERY, ME.
• You will overhaul and refuel nuclear powered vessels, in a wide range of radiological control operations.
• You will assure adherence to radiological control requirements for assignments which involve numerous processes in several high skill level trades.
• You will serve as a major radiological control representative in "dry run" planning, practice, or "mock‑up" sessions in preparation for major repairs and overhaul or refueling operations.
• You will take charge of response to radiation related emergencies and incidents until replaced by a senior radiological control supervisor or manager.

• You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
• You will be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
• This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
• This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

• Experience assisting with applying standardized rules, procedures, methods, techniques, and operations that apply to radiological principles or health physics.
• Experience assisting with gathering, recording, and assembling pertinent data and reporting observations and findings to appropriate personnel.
• Experience reviewing radiological control practices and procedures.
• Experience implementing safety requirements.

GS-05

In addition to the Basic Requirements (see Education section), your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level.

• Experience assisting with applying standardized rules, procedures, methods, techniques, and operations that apply to radiological principles or health physics.
• Experience assisting with gathering, recording, and assembling pertinent data and reporting observations and findings to appropriate personnel.
• Experience preventing, controlling and investigating incidents.
• Experience assisting with documenting deficiencies in writing reports and assessments.

GS-06

In addition to the Basic Requirements (see Education section), your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level.

• Experience assisting with applying standardized rules, procedures, methods, techniques, and operations that apply to radiological principles or health physics.
• Experience assisting with utilizing radiation survey to implement radiation control requirements in assigned ship or shipyard area(s).
• Experience utilizing ship and shipyard layout (including location of safety and emergency equipment, drain water and sewage systems, harbor, contaminated equipment, and radiation sources) to plan ways to control possible incidents.
• Experience utilizing ventilation, detection, filtration, and containment material, equipment, and systems to assure adequacy of various standard containment and ventilation systems and procedures.

Education

Specialized experience for positions at GS-4 and above includes work in the fields of astronomy, physics, geophysics, chemistry, hydrology, health physics, engineering, electronics, geology, oceanography, and metallurgy. Laboratory mechanic or trade work may also qualify when performed in close association with physical scientists or other technical personnel. Applicants may substitute the following level of education for the required specialized experience:

• GS-06: Graduate education or an internship that is directly related to the work of the position.
• GS-05: Successful completion of a full 4‑year course of study leading to a bachelor’s degree with major study in an appropriate field of physical science or at least 24 semester hours in related courses.
• GS-04: Successful completion of 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours in related courses.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be combined to meet total qualification requirements. If you are using education to meet all or part of the qualification requirements, you must submit a copy of your transcripts or an itemized list of college courses which includes equivalent information from the transcript.
