Job summary

Bureau of Naval Personnel seeks an Assistant Radiation Safety Officer to collaborate with the RSO and RSC, manage routine and non-routine radiation safety tasks, and ensure compliance with DoD and Navy requirements. You will lead training, monitor health programs, and provide technical support in nuclear and radiation safety labs.

Qualifications

• At least one year of specialized experience at GS-11 level or equivalent.
• Specialized experience includes advising on corrective action plans for radiation safety.
• Coordinating and participating in training for radiation exposed individuals and other personnel.
• Applying operating and emergency procedures to ensure compliance with directives and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Serve as ARSO and work with RSO and RSC to manage routing and non-routine radiation safety programs.

• Implement the management review program including surveys, audits and inspections.
• Coordinate and deliver radiation safety training and orientations for RASP-exposed individuals, faculty, staff, researchers and emergency response personnel.
• Work with the Radiological Health Officer to monitor medical center personnel regarding the radiation health program.
• Serve as a qualified radiation worker and technical asset in the Nucleonics and Propulsion laboratories, delivering direct technical support for nuclear and radiation safety classes.
• Maintain clean, safe labs; collect and analyze data from experiments to support technical papers and publications.
• Maintain current inventory of all RASP sources and ensure secure handling and receipt of radioactive shipments.

Duties

• You will serve as the Assistant Radiation Safety Officer (ARSO), working collaboratively with the RSO and the Radiation Safety Committee (RSC) to manage routing and non-routine radiation safety programs.
• You will assists the RSO in maintaining compliance for the USNA Broad Scope permit.
• You will implement the management review program that includes Surveys, Audits and Inspections.
• You will coordinate , develop and deliver radiation safety training and orientations for RASP- exposed individuals, faculty, staff, researchers and emergency response personnel.
• You will work with the Radiological Health Officer to monitor medical center personnel regarding the radiation health program.
• You will function as a qualified radiation worker and technical asset inside the Nucleonics and Propulsion laboratories, delivering direct technical support for nuclear and radiation safety classes.
• You will keep work areas and laboratories clean, safe and orderly, collects, analyzes and evaluate technical data derived from mechanical and electronic experiments to support technical papers and publications.
• You will maintain a current inventory of all RASP sources ensuring they are secured against loss, unauthorized use or unauthorized disposal. Processes tracks and receives radioactive material shipments.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

• Coordinating and participating in training for radiation exposed individuals and other personnel.
• Applying operating and emergency procedures to ensure compliance with directives and regulations.

Education

Basic Requirements For 1306 Series, Health Physicist

Degree: natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus.

• Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or other education; or certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable
