Job summary

Thorlabs in Newton, NJ is seeking an engineer to design, build, and test photonics tools for scientific and industrial applications. You will collaborate with software teams to maximize functionality and ensure robust device performance.

The role requires 0–5 years of related experience, a strong foundation in optics/electronics, and the ability to develop test procedures and specifications for production release. Thorlabs offers a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

Entry level to 5 years' experience in industry or academia designing and building integrated photonic systems such as optical and electronic characterization tools/instruments
Advanced degree or equivalent industry/academic experience in photonics is preferred
Experience may substitute for the degree requirement as noted in the education section

Responsibilities

Design, build, and test photonics tools for scientific and industrial applications
Design experiments to qualify proof-of-concept technologies
Specify and perform testing to characterize catalog or system products with procedures and fixtures
Create specifications for components and test procedures as part of development and release to production
Collaborate with software group to maximize functionality and technology usage
Provide technical support to Manufacturing, Marketing and Service
Assist and/or troubleshoot the production team when problems arise
Responsible for data entry in the Thorlabs ERP system
